As Europe moves towards a Water-Smart Society and a Circular Economy Act, the webinar presents wastewater as a strategic source of nutrients, energy and critical raw materials.

Held on June 01,2026, the event focused on how wastewater can provide reusable water, recovered materials and energy. It highlighted the increasingly importance of water reuse when natural water resources become scarcer.

RESURGENCE develops treatment systems that allow industrial water to be recirculated and reused, reducing freshwater consumption. While it also investigates how useful materials and feedstocks can be recovered from industrial wastewater instead of being discarded. Regarding the energy production, the project examines the recovery of heat, biogas and electricity from industrial wastewater treatment.

The webinar results of great importance for the project as technologies, business models and regulatory frameworks are advancing at different speeds. This means that bridging the gap between what is technically possible and what is happening on the ground remains one of the sector’s central challenges today.
