From Complex Waste to High-Value Resources: RESURGENCE at the ICARUS Cellulose Webinar

On February 26th, the RESURGENCE project joined forces with ICARUSCORNERSTONE Industrial Water, and the Wood2Wood Project for a deep dive into one of the most promising frontiers of the circular economy: cellulose valorization.

Industrial and urban waste streams are notoriously difficult to process, often treated as a burden rather than an opportunity. However, these streams hide enormous untapped potential. The webinar, titled “From Complex Waste to High-Value Resources,” focused on how cutting-edge European research is successfully recovering cellulose from these complex flows and transforming it into sustainable secondary raw materials.

RESURGENCE: Driving Circular Solutions

As a key participant, the RESURGENCE project showcased its latest breakthroughs in upcycling cellulose waste. The project’s mission aligns perfectly with the goal of creating a more resource-efficient industry by proving that what was once considered “complex waste” can become a pillar of circular manufacturing.

The session highlighted that the transition to a circular model isn’t just about the technology—it’s about the valorisation process. By turning recovered cellulose into high-value assets, projects like RESURGENCE are helping to power the next generation of bio-based materials.

A Dynamic Exchange of Ideas

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the interactive Q&A session. The audience brought a wealth of insights and challenging questions, sparking a dynamic discussion on the regulatory, technical, and market barriers facing cellulose recovery today. This level of engagement underscores the growing interest from industry stakeholders in practical, scalable circular solutions.
