Innovative Water Risk Framework presented at the SusChemE Sustens2 Conference

Partners of the EU-funded RESURGENCE project recently presented a transformative approach to industrial water management at the SusChemE Sustens2 Conference in Athens, Greece. Anna Trubetskaya, representing 20FIFTY Partners, introduced a new water risk framework designed to integrate water circularity directly into site-level water risk modeling.

The research marks a significant shift in how industry views wastewater, moving from treating it as a costly liability to recognizing it as a strategic resource and a tool for risk reduction. By adopting internal reuse and recovery practices, large industrial water users can fundamentally reshape their risk profiles. The framework demonstrates that circularity not only cuts exposure to water scarcity but also ensures tighter regulatory compliance and strengthens long-term operational resilience.

The development of this framework was a collaborative effort, with significant contributions from RESURGENCE project partner Strane Innovation and input from industry expert Ian Ryan. The presentation utilized real-world cases to illustrate how industrial sites can transition from traditional disposal methods to a resource-recovery mindset.
