Meet RESURGENCE Partners: CETIM

Can you tell us your role in the project and how your expertise contributes to the project’s mission?

In RESURGENCE, CETIM acts as coordinator, and this means that we are responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of the project and achieving impactful results. However, the core of our activities in the project, from a technical perspective is the research and development of advanced water treatment technologies for industrial water. Our developments in the project will include innovative advanced oxidation processes, membrane filtration technologies, biological treatments, electrochemical methods, adsorption and ionic liquids. In addition, at CETIM we will carry out the environmental and socio-economic impact assessments of all the technologies developed in the project.

CETIM’s background as a technology centre dedicated to meeting the technological needs of the industry allows us to participate in RESURGENCE building on a solid research and innovation base. Indeed, through our work in the project, we will contribute to RESURGENCE’s objectives for a circular and sustainable industrial water circle, applying our expertise in the areas of ECO- BIO technologies to create a sustainable future.

Furthermore, our expertise in the Horizon framework programmes and in the coordination of big consortiums ensures that, together will all partners we can achieve the ambitious objectives of RESURGENCE and contribute to a greener Europe.

What do you think are the main benefits that the project brings forward, and in which areas do you envision the project having its biggest impact?

Process industries are key in achieving EU climate neutrality & environmental objectives since they are energy and resource intensive and link primary resources with manufacturing. Within this context, RESURGENCE project is focused on developing flexible and easily scalable, green and digital technologies for industrial wastewater management (IWWM) to improve the competitiveness of the EU process industry. By providing advanced solutions that respond to environmental, technical and economic needs, RESURGENCE will support EU industries on their path towards greater sustainability, climate neutrality and resilience. These innovations will mainly contribute to reducing water and carbon footprints, as well as reducing dependence on energy and primary resources. Furthermore, RESURGENCE will ensure easy integration between the innovative technologies and the existing water treatment infrastructure at the industrial sites, this making fore an easy and feasible transition.

If you had to describe the RESURGENCE project in one word, what would that be?

Embracing circularity in Industrial Water Use.
