RESURGENCE researchers showcase membrane solutions at MELPRO 2026
Researchers from the RESURGENCE consortium presented their work on membrane technologies for industrial wastewater treatment, water reuse and resource recovery at MELPRO 2026, held in Prague from 5 to 7 October 2026.
The international conference brought together academia, research centres and industry to exchange knowledge and explore advances in membrane processes, materials and applications. For RESURGENCE, it provided an opportunity to share research addressing water and resource challenges in the pulp and paper and steel industries.
Three presentations highlighting consortium research
Alfonso Ronca, from NOVA University Lisbon, presented “Nanofiltration for the treatment of bleaching effluents from the pulp and paper industry: a case study”, sharing results from research conducted at NOVA School of Science and Technology within RESURGENCE. He also co-chaired the session on pressure-driven membrane processes with Professor M. Turek.
Xuefei Yang, from CETIM Technological Centre, delivered a presentation entitled “Biomimetic reverse osmosis for water reuse and resource recovery from steel industry wastewater”, exploring the application of biomimetic membrane technology to industrial wastewater.
Laura Lema Corral, also from CETIM Technological Centre, presented “Use of biomimetic membranes in reverse osmosis and forward osmosis as concentration technologies for lignin recovery”, highlighting research into membrane-based approaches for recovering valuable resources.
Together, these contributions illustrated complementary approaches being investigated within RESURGENCE to improve industrial water management and support more circular use of water and materials.
Connecting research through knowledge exchange
Beyond the technical sessions, MELPRO 2026 offered opportunities to meet international colleagues, discuss research challenges and exchange perspectives across disciplines and sectors. These exchanges support the sharing of knowledge and ideas that can inform further developments within the project.
RESURGENCE thanks the conference organisers and all participants for the discussions, and its researchers for sharing the consortium’s work with the international membrane community.
