The Third Newsletter is Now Out: Discover the Latest Updates

The RESURGENCE project released its third official newsletter. This latest update marks a significant milestone for the project, featuring the launch of its first policy brief for EU lawmakers, the premiere of an official project video, and the celebration of prestigious research accolades.

As Europe faces increasing water scarcity and industrial pressure, the RESURGENCE project is at the forefront of the transition toward a “water-smart” circular economy. The newly released newsletter serves as a comprehensive gateway to the project’s most recent breakthroughs and upcoming strategic actions.

Key Highlights from the RESURGENCE 3rd Edition:

  • Official Project Premiere: RESURGENCE has released a new three-minute video on YouTube, providing a visual deep dive into how the consortium is scaling technologies to turn industrial wastewater and waste streams into valuable resources through real-world case studies.

  • A Roadmap for EU Policy: The project has published its first Policy Brief, offering targeted recommendations to EU policymakers. The brief outlines how future legislation, digitalization strategies, and funding instruments can stimulate industrial water reuse, using the “Seeds of Hubs for Circularity” as a scalable model for the continent.

  • Award-Winning Innovation: Researcher Ana P. Lourenço was honored with the Best Poster Award at CIBIQ 2025. Her research, funded by RESURGENCE, utilizes advanced oxidation to remove optical brighteners in the pulp and paper sector—a critical step in driving industrial water reuse.

  • Bridging Research and Industry: At Water Projects Europe 2025, Project Coordinator Xuefei Yang emphasized the urgent need for mechanisms that bring innovation closer to industrial application. Yang noted, “Increasing water circularity in Europe requires a seamless integration of research and industry to turn innovation into operational reality.”

The full newsletter, including the latest publications on industrial risk assessment tools and energy conversion materials, is available now on the Project Website.
