Water Projects Europe Post-Event report: Driving Circularity in Industrial Water Use

On 25 June 2025, the RESURGENCE project, in collaboration with A.SPIRE under the Processes4Planet (P4P) partnership, hosted the first Water Projects Europe (WPE) event of the three sister projects: RESURGENCE, R3VOLUTION, and CORNERSTONE. This inaugural edition explored the increasingly critical topic of circularity in industrial water use, addressing challenges heightened by climate-driven water scarcity, growing industrial demand, and tightening EU regulations.

The event gathered strong engagement, with 105 registered participants, 13 live YouTube viewers, and an impressive 476 viewers on LinkedIn. The full recording remains available to watch here.

A New Cycle of Strategic Collaboration

This WPE marked the launch of a new annual cycle of two strategic clustering events designed to unite EU-funded water-related R&I projects. Beyond presenting individual project approaches, the event set the stage for sustained collaboration and knowledge exchange.

As projects advance, these clustering activities will play a decisive role in amplifying results, overcoming common challenges, and building scalable, resilient solutions for Europe’s industrial water future.

RESURGENCE as a Connector

Acting as the organiser, RESURGENCE not only presented its own technical innovations but also facilitated dialogue with R3VOLUTION and CORNERSTONE. Early discussions explored digital tool integration, harmonised KPIs, and policy-to-market pathways, positioning RESURGENCE as a key enabler of Europe’s transition toward a circular, climate-resilient, and resource-efficient industrial ecosystem.

This edition also spotlighted the three newly launched Horizon Europe sister projects, funded under the call HORIZON-CL4-2023-TWIN-TRANSITION-01-40: “Sustainable and efficient industrial water consumption through energy and solute recovery” within the Processes4Planet partnership. Managed by A.SPIRE, these projects embody the EU’s ambition to drive climate neutrality, circular resource use, and global competitiveness in process industries.
